Take Control Of Your Overactive Bladder

An overactive bladder or urinary incontinence is a condition that's difficult to live with and difficult to talk about. Frequent trips to the bathroom can be embarrassing and hard to explain. And accidents or the fear of accidents can severely impact you emotional and psychological well being, not to mention your social life. Nobody wants to have to get up throughout the night to use the bathroom or excuse themselves from a nice dinner with friends yet again.

You want a natural and effective way to deal with your problem without resorting to prescription medicines that can have unpleasant and even dangerous side effects. And you want to strengthen your urinary system so you don't have to have surgery down the road. Here's how.

The most important thing to do is to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Pregnancy, childbirth, obesity or age can decrease the tone of these muscles leading to more frequent urination and difficulty holding it. The easiest way to strengthen these muscles is to do Kegel exercises. Think of them as sit ups for your urinary tract.

To find the right muscles try to stop the flow of urine. When you've succeeded, you have found the right muscles. Now find a comfortable position. You can stand, sit, or lie down. Contract those muscles and hold, then release. Hold the contraction as long as you are able, eventually to the slow count of three. Contract and release ten times, gradually increasing the number of contractions. Work up to three sets of ten or more a day.

You can do Kegel exercises anywhere; in line at the bank, in the car, while you're reading in bed. If you keep at it, you will see results. An added benefit is that many people report greater sexual performance and enjoyment after doing Kegel exercises regularly. These exercises are the single best thing you can to do for your overactive bladder.

Another important thing is to look into natural supplements that can support and maintain a strong, healthy bladder. Soy germ and pumpkin seed extract have been studied in clinical trials for use in treating bladder control problems. Frequency of urination was measured day and night, as was emergency episodes and overall satisfaction. Marked improvement was shown after the first week and continued through the sixth week. And because these are food extracts, you don't have to worry about stress to your liver as with prescription medications.

Strong, toned pelvic floor muscles and a good natural supplement designed with your condition in mind will help make those frequent trips to the bathroom a thing of the past.
